Carsington Reservoir.

This page is about Carsington Reservoir, Derbyshire, just minutes away from the and now linked to the High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail via the National Cycle Route 54a in Derbyshire. Approx 8 miles of cycle route around the perimeter of the reservoir and opened in 1992.

Bit of a strange route this one, although only 8 miles it does seem longer, and for a family route it is a bit tough for the novice as there are lots of short but very steep hills, the main thing is that it is hard to keep the momentum going, you roll down hills to have to brake hard at the bottom to get around sharp hairpin corners and then immediately you have to climb real steep hills, its like this more or less all the way on the hilly sections, which accounts for two thirds of the route if not more, all this aside it is a beautiful place to be, the scenery is absolutely stunning.  I rode this route in July 2009
