Dave's Mountain Bike
Mania- 'Rail Trails' & Cycle Routes Off Road Cycling guide to converted
Railways & Trails in
Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire and beyond!!
Start of
the Nutbrook Trail at Shipley Park Heanor, and a couple of picks of the
first few miles of the trail tarmac section
This is a
fairly local trail for
me, and brought to my
attention by a sustrans
volunteer ranger who
visited this website.
It's an off road trail
running from Heanor
(Shipley Park visitors
centre) to Long Eaton
and for me it was a
classic example of the
local trail you never
knew existed which
turned out to be a nice
hidden gem suitable for
all ages of cyclists.
Unfortunately I know
nothing of it's history
before it was a trail or
how long the trail has
been opened, although it
is part of the National
cycle route 67 but I
would have a guess at
around year 2000 give or
take a year or so.

The
Nutbrook Trail
stretches 10 miles each
way, it is a very easy
route, perfect for the
novice and young family
members wanting to get a
few miles under their
belt, there are a few
hills but nothing to
worry about on the first
half of the trail which
is mostly tarmac, the
second half is flat on
hard packed canal tow
path. The Trail starting
from and running through
Shipley Park in Heanor.
I have to say that my
wife and I really
enjoyed the ride on this
trail, plenty of things
to look at along the way
Walkers & cyclists can
all use the route.
